East di Lido Residence is a project designed by Strang Architecture in 2015 and is located in Miami Beach, Fl.
Located on an artificial island in Biscayne Bay, this residence maximizes the waterfront views across Biscayne Bay and neighboring islands. Unlike many of the stark white boxes that have proliferated on Miami Beach’s waterfront sites, this house incorporates natural keystone and wood louvers to provide an additional layer of detail and warmth. The poured-in-place concrete structural slabs, expressed as deep overhangs, provide the authentic architectural identity for the home.
As is common on these islands in Biscayne Bay, restrictive zoning codes combine with a directive for maximizing the home’s square footage to result in a relatively generic massing. The challenge to differentiate the design is overcome by the thoughtful use of a sophisticated material palette and exquisite detailing. Built on speculation by a developer, the six-bedroom home was purchased soon after completion by a South American family.
