Relaxed Living by the Stylesmiths

Relaxed Living is a project designed by the Stylesmiths. A modern beachside home beautifully tailored with a relaxed and contemporary interior design, Seaside Living is a celebration of colour. Blending tactility with a palette of greens, blues and browns, The Stylesmiths worked with the homeowners to curate a design that reflects their lifestyle across entertaining areas and private quarters. Inspired by the existing home and leafy, urban coastal surroundings, the project reaches a perfect balance between form and function. Photography by Gus MacDonald.

Natural timbers, terrazzo floors and deep green cabinetry in the kitchen provide warmth and drama throughout the family zones. Lead designer, Silvia Roldan notes that details in the custom joinery denote thoughtful consideration for quality materials and strong, engaging colours, an attention to detail which The Stylesmiths made sure to echo throughout the home. Parallel to the kitchen island bench is the dining area, where long rod pendant from Cult Design references the linear shape of Jardan Cooper dining table below, and again mimicked by the azure blue lap pool just outside. Framed by large windows, the water’s shimmering reflection and vivid colour continues the coastal theme, while pure linen curtains add a sense of luxury and when floating on the breeze coming through the open pool door, could enthral the busiest of minds. Sleek lines make this space calming, but they also ensure ease of movement, which is important for a young, active family.

In the adjacent living, the Icon Sofa from Natuzzi beckons for attention. Chosen for its unique form, the sofa has been positioned so that its sculptural back fold can be viewed from the kitchen, and upholstered in thick, robust fabric it also ticks the brief for finishes that are easy to clean but don’t compromise on aesthetics. Furnishings are playful with plump curves and visual texture including velvet cushions and Patagonian marble coffee table, anchored by a boho style aztec rug in Burgundy, weaved in with pops of blue and copper that have been successfully translated into the custom artwork by Hannah Nowlan.

Up the stairs and down the hall, three bedrooms each enjoy their own atmosphere designed to encapsulate different elements such as comfort, luxury or playtime depending on its use. In the little boy’s room, a vintage green feature wall serves as a background from which vegan leather reading chair in tan and small bedside table from Mustard Made pop, while superhero graphics hint to the youngster’s personality. The nursery has softer green walls, a mauve bed canopy and artworks by Samuel Condon with golden horses that add a playful note. The idea here was to keep colours muted to ensure a calming space for baby to sleep. The same approach was taken in the master bedroom, which was originally coated in a very dark green which our clients found intense and unsettling. The Stylesmiths decided to introduce a light grey onto the walls, vegan upholstered bedhead and supple blue rug underfoot, all accented by a Claire Kirkup original artwork with dashes of pinks, making for a much more romantic parents’ retreat.

Overall, this relaxed yet contemporary interior design brought an extra layer of softness, tactility, shape, form and uniqueness to the home to provide an inviting atmosphere that is perfect for entertaining, or simply enjoying some quiet time at home with the kids. Silvia says the most rewarding part of the process is hearing that, “they feel it was made just for them.” With careful consideration and a personalised approach to urban seaside living, The Stylesmiths are proud to have created something truly special for those lucky enough to call it their own.
