Higueras is a project designed by Alfille Arquitectos. This project involved the revitalization of a clubhouse within a housing complex. Originally built in the 1980s, the clubhouse served as a social center for residents, offering a pool, gym, and multi-purpose salon. Our design approach focused on creating a modern and flexible space that catered to the diverse needs of the community. Photography by Cesar Belio.
The central element of the renovation was the pool area. We completely redesigned the roof, replacing the outdated design with a contemporary solution that better integrates with the overall aesthetic. This not only enhanced the visual appeal but also improved functionality.
The multi-purpose salon presented a unique challenge. We aimed to create a space that could seamlessly adapt to various activities, from fitness classes and social gatherings to dance parties and children’s birthdays. The solution involved an expansive outdoor terrace that visually connects with the salon through floor-to-ceiling windows. This allows for a seamless merging of the two spaces, maximizing capacity and fostering a vibrant indoor-outdoor experience.
To further enhance the flexibility and openness of the terrace, we incorporated wooden beams that cantilever outwards for a striking 3 meters. This design element eliminates the need for obstructive columns, creating a truly open-plan space that can be easily adapted to a variety of uses.
Finally, we addressed the building’s facade, which lacked visual intrigue. We implemented a unique cladding solution using an outdoor deck material. This not only added a modern texture but also helped differentiate the two distinct volumes that comprise the building’s exterior. The result is a cohesive and visually appealing facade that reflects the modern spirit of the renovated clubhouse.
Through this project, we aimed to breathe new life into a dated space, creating a community hub that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The modernized clubhouse now serves as a dynamic gathering place for residents, fostering social interaction and a sense of belonging within the housing complex.
