Line Apartment is a project designed by MRA. Located in a highly preserved neighborhood in Jerusalem, facing the historic old city walls, the project entailed linking two small and separate residential units to create a single larger unit. The primary challenge was to reconcile multiple levels, open long views and vistas to the dramatic views and bring in light and air into all habitable spaces. Photography by Ilan Nahum.
Given the very long and narrow site, with some of the spaces submerged underground, the above objectives were a true design and engineering challenge. Modifications to the existing building height and strict preservation guidelines necessitated hidden integration of all infrastructure within the building envelope. The renovation included new windows, porches, stone work and roof.
