A 160m² apartment in the traditional Morumbi neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil, has been given a new life through an innovative renovation project by Conectarq, led by architects Thais Bontempi and Mirella Fochi. This makeover combines comfort, modernity, and personality. Previously marked by outdated finishes and a layout that did not reflect contemporary living, the apartment has been transformed into a bright and welcoming space, making the most of its large windows and natural light.
The client, a young enthusiast of jiu-jitsu, reading, and music, sought a home that would not only meet his living and leisure needs but also reflect his hobbies and lifestyle. The project’s focus was on the social area and bedroom, which now includes a tatami area, creating a private mini gym, perfect for practicing his beloved sport.
Adopting a clean, minimalist style, the interior design stands out for its balanced use of white and gray, with strategic touches of black and oak wood, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Two major structural changes were made: the first in the service area, where the former laundry and dependencies were converted into a spacious area for the jiu-jitsu gym; the second in the en-suite bathroom, whose layout was completely revamped, removing the bathtub and updating the space.
The living room was designed with a harmonious integration between the rooms and the balcony, established on an elegant satin-finish porcelain floor, providing a cozy setting ideal for gatherings with friends and family. The fireplace, previously with an outdated design, was modernized to create a more contemporary atmosphere in the space.
In the dining room, a white slatted detail adds dynamism to the space and aligns perfectly with the table’s design, complemented by chairs and an elegant pendant light. The highlight of the design is the São Gabriel black granite countertop, meticulously planned by the architects, adding exclusivity and sophistication to the environment.
In this area, a large tatami mat was installed to create an open, comfortable space, allowing the client to practice exercises with his instructor and sometimes with friends. Additionally, a mini boreal glass divider was chosen to ensure a space suitable for ventilation and drying of clothing, providing constant ventilation while separated from the building’s external facade, also serving as an area for a clothesline and laundry essentials.
The centerpiece of the office is a large glass bookshelf for the preservation and display of the client’s books, designed to keep volumes well-protected yet easily accessible.
In the master bedroom, a significant transformation occurred from the original design, which had two small windows limiting furniture arrangement. These windows were removed, and the curtain on the patio door was taken down, resulting in greater natural light and a more practical room arrangement.
The use of natural materials like wood and leather on the bed’s headboard brought a sense of comfort and warmth to the space, complemented by the harmonious choice of rug, bedding, and curtains.
