The Rumpus by Elaine Richardson Architect

The Rumpus by Elaine Richardson Architect. This beautiful old house on Sydney’s north shore was already renovated. It was a big family home, with a big pool, a big kitchen and a long deck, but because the rear living areas were faced South the rooms felt dark. Photography by Michael Lassman Photography.

The family wanted to add a rumpus room for the kids that was sunny and to enlarge the deck so they could lounge and live there throughout the year. There were some basic functionalities that needed to be addressed.

We converted the existing garage space and enlarged it to make a mud room, a bathroom for the rumpus and pool and a new light filled rumpus room. the architecture of the house complimented the existing house. We opened up the deck to create more space for a lounge as well as a dining area.

we loved that some small tweaks to this beautiful home added to the family’s day to day life.
