Paris and London-based Guillaume Alan created the architecture, design and furniture design for the 180 square metre (1,937 sq.ft) residence of a busy professional French couple that travels the world. Photography by Matthew Donaldson.
This three bedroom apartment is situated on the fourth floor, overlooking the North Bank of the River Seine in the quiet 16th Arrondissement of Paris. The designers were challenged to balance bespoke contemporary style with classic French flair. The Eiffel Tower just across the river informed the design; ARRCC drew on its unique and recognisable aesthic to inspire individual elements whilst its strikingly close presence guided the internal remodel.

Chalet ‘Dag’ is a project designed by Chevallier Architectes and is located in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France. This cottage was originally a summer residence, like many others in Chamonix, and was therefore not insulated for winter use. No upgrades had been done since its construction approximately 70 years ago. The upper level was used only as an attic and the lowest level as a garage, with only the middle level used as living space. The firm’s mission was to make all existing floor space liveable, using the best available insulation solutions.
The couple turned to Carmel architect John Thodos, who created Glass House, a symmetrical wood, glass-block and steel building faintly reminiscent of modernist Pierre Chareau’s 1930s Maison de Verre in Paris. The house went recently for sale. Photography by Anatoliy Bovt Photo.
