Ridgecrest Residence by Clayton Korte

Ridgecrest Residence is a project designed by Clayton Korte. Perched on a hilltop in the West Lake Hills with a peek of downtown Austin, the Ridgecrest residence renovates and adds to a mid-century modern home, doubling its size. The 5,574-square-foot residence is designed to take advantage of the valley views and encourage seamless indoor and outdoor living experiences while using materials respectful of the place and details of the original 1970s home. Glazing along the south walls brings in abundant natural light and wraps around the outdoor living oasis with an existing pool and patio (floor-to-ceiling windows account for over 40% of the exterior). The living, dining, and kitchen are open concept and flow directly to the outdoor lounge, perfect for family gatherings and easy entertaining. Photography by Andrea Calo.

Hartford Residence by Clayton Korte. “With an owner’s vision for a refined retreat notable for fluid spaces and artful details, this centrally located Austin residence makes the most of its steeply sloped, leafy site in an established Austin neighborhood. Throughout the 5,295-square-foot house, the flow of spaces is informed by natural light; rooms open one after another and draw one forward to discover what comes next. Photography by Andrea Calo

Hill Country Wine Cave by Clayton Korte

Located at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, this private wine cave designed by Clayton Korte serves as a destination along a secluded bend of the Blanco River. Excavated into the north face of a solid limestone hillside, this shotcrete lined tube is protected on the east and west by tall oak and elm trees, allowing it to nearly disappear within the native landscape. The unassuming exterior entry court reveals a bit of mystery as it provides just a glimpse of what lies within. Heavy limestone boulders, collected from the excavation, and lush vegetation further camouflage the entry as you descend into the mouth of the cave. Photography by Casey Dunn.
